The Economy Block is a classic quilt design dating back to the 1800s, originally prized for its ability to utilise fabric scraps. It’s beginner-friendly, versatile, and also goes by names like “Diamond-in-a-Square “, “Economy Patch,” “Thrift Block,” “Hourglass,” and “Square in a Square.”
This block’s structure — a central square framed by triangles that form another square — made an efficient use of small pieces and fabric remnants.
